Born in New Orleans, I am a preacher's son from the deep-South. Like Aretha and Sam Cooke sang about. A poor boy down by the river. In a little tent. And like that river, I've been running ever since.
Having lived, worked, and traveled throughout Latin America, much of my work (the Connor Caine series) focuses on the relationship between the United States and Latin America and the effect American Imperialism has had on those countries.
First and foremost, however, I am a Southern writer. The themes that pervade my work--race, religion, class, and culture--all stem from where I was born and raised (Louisiana, Mississippi, and Georgia). I love the Mississippi Delta most of all. Several of my upcoming stories are set in the area between New Orleans and Memphis.
